Estate

Finca Lerida

Background

Founded by Tollef Bache Monniche, a Norwegian engineer who came to Panama to help build the Panama Canal locks and later retired to Boquete around 1924. He built the farmhouse by hand in a Norwegian countryside style. First coffee export was in 1929, to Germany โ€” one of Panama's earliest specialty coffee export records. Monniche also invented the "sifon," a device for separating defective beans, now used globally.

Now managed by the Chiari family on the lower slopes of Baru Volcano, surrounded by cloud forest harboring over 550 bird species. One of the best spots in the world to see the Resplendent Quetzal. The estate also operates a 23-room boutique ecolodge. Won Best Coffee in the World at SCAA Boston (2003) and First Place at SCAP Traditional Washed (2017).
